SMC LIBRARY MISSION

To support the institutions effort to achieve excellence in intellectual, humanistic and cultural formation of the community it serves, the library shall:
1. Provide extensive, well-organized and balance collection that supports the academic program of the school.
2. To develop and sustain well-trained and competent library staff to promote effective use of the library; and
3. Equip its users with a life- long learning of using library resources efficiently and effectively.

SMC LIBRARY VISION

South Mansfield College Library aims to support the school mission in its commitment to equip learners to become competent, character-driven and productive members of society, through equitable access to update and relevant print and non-print library materials, information, resources and services sufficient to meet the student learning needs and expectation.

 

The Library subscribes to the principles embodied in the Standard for Philippine Library and its interpretations which states the academic library shall have library resources relevant to its mission, adequate in quality and quantity, helpful in serving the needs of scholarship and research, as well as progressively growing in accordance with institutional development and expansion plans.

The Library will offer the widest possible range of subjects in a variety of formats, treatments and levels of difficulty, within the limits of cost and space and considering current holdings and demand.

A.    Access to Library Facilities

1.      A bonafide student, faculty and staff are entitled to borrow books/materials and can utilize the materials/facilities in the library.
(For Visitors: Proper endorsement of their Librarian with a referral letter is a must)
2.      All students, faculty, staff are expected to log-in and log-out upon ingress and egress of the library using the Log for Daily Visits, while the visitors using the Log for Outside Researchers.

B.    Circulation of Books and other Library Resources

BORROWING

College Faculty & Staff

  1. Library Staff checks/assesses user’s account if borrower is qualified to borrow book/s.
  2. Full time faculty and staff may borrow five (5) books; three (3) circulation books for the whole semester and two (2) books in the Reserve section for three (3) days.  For part time faculty and staff, they may borrow three (3) books; two (2) circulations and one (1) reserve; same rules in loaning period apply. (For AV materials like CD’s and DVD’s are for room use only)
  3. Borrower fills out Book Card.
  4. Borrowed books are recorded in the Faculty/Staff Library Card (accession number, title of the book, date borrowed).
  5. Library Staff ensures the Book Card is properly filled out by the student.
  6. Library Staff writes information on Due Date Slip.
  7. Library Staff releases the item/s to faculty/staff.

College Students

  1. Library Staff checks/assesses user’s account if borrower is qualified to borrow book/s.
  2. Students are allowed to borrow three (3) fiction books for one (1) week, subject to renewal, if not in demand and two (2) Circulation and Filipiniana books for only (2) days, subject to renewal, if not in demand.(For AV materials like CD’s and DVD’s are for room use only)
  3. Borrower fills out Book Card.
  4. Borrowed books are recorded in the Student Library Card (accession number, title of the book, date borrowed).
  5. Library Staff ensures the Book Card is properly filled out by the student.
  6. Library Staff writes information on Due Date Slip.
  7. Library Staff releases the item/s to student.

Basic Education Faculty and Staff

  1. Library Staff checks/assesses user’s account if borrower is qualified to borrow book/s.
  2. Faculty and staff are allowed to borrow maximum of five (5) circulation books for a period of one (1) week and subject to renewal. Maximum of ten (10) textbooks could be borrowed for a period of one (1) year. . (For AV materials like CD’s and DVD’s are for room use only)
  3. Borrower fills out Book Card.
  4. Borrowed books are recorded in the Faculty/Staff Library Card (accession number, title of the book, date borrowed).
  5. Library Staff ensures the Book Card is properly filled out by the faculty/staff.
  6. Library Staff writes information on Due Date Slip.
  7. Library Staff releases the items to faculty/staff.

Basic Education Students

  1. Library Staff checks/assesses user’s account if borrower is qualified to borrow book/s.
  2. Students are allowed to borrow maximum of two (2) circulation and fiction books for one (1)week. Borrowed books may be renewed for another week provided that no other students have made prior reservations.(For AV materials like CD’s and DVD’s are for room use only)
  3. Borrower fills out Book Card.
  4. Borrowed books are recorded in the Student Library Card (accession number, title of the book, date borrowed).
  5. Library Staff ensures the Book Card is properly filled out by the student.
  6. Library Staff writes information on Due Date Slip.
  7. Library Staff releases the items to student.

Returning Borrowed Books

  1. Due book/s must be returned at 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
  2. Due book/s must be returned by the person who borrowed it.
  3. The due book/s will be received by the librarian/student assistant and will write on the Faculty/Staff Library Card or Student Library Card “Returned” as remarks.

NOTE: No books are allowed for check-out during the following periods:

  1. Last week of classes on every Academic Year;
  2. Last week of classes on every end of semester;
  3. Last week of classes on December; and
  4. During (summer) vacation

LIBRARY ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG (OPAC)

Library Online Public Access Catalog(OPAC)

South Mansfield College libraries uses KOHA as its integrated library system. Learning materials are now searchable through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). There is a dedicated computer in each library that is for OPAC use only. The OPAC provides all useful information for finding references and other related resources available in Southville Global Education Network (SGEN) schools.

  • Through the school counseling program, all students become well- adjusted, responsible, and productive citizen.

To implement a comprehensive developmental guidance counseling program that facilitates the success of all students in a unified system in a way that

  • Establishes a diversified team approach to facilitate student success by providing guidance counseling services within the four recommended components: guidance curriculum; individual planning; responsive services and support services.
  • Implements prioritized vertically aligned guidance in the areas of academic success, personal and social development and career and college guidance; so that SMC achieves exemplary guidance counseling services that provide a healthy dynamic component to the optimum development of all SMC student.
  • Experience educational success by providing guidance in the areas of academic, career and citizenship relationship.
